Power Expert Software for ALtera FPGAs and CPLDs
Description:
Power Expert for Altera FPGAs is an industry-first software tool that allows digital designers to select from a family of Altera FPGAs and easily find a customized National Semiconductor power solution for their system. This tool also ties directly to National Semiconductor's free WEBENCH® online design environment for faster, less-hassle, complete analog designs, simulations and prototypes. Power Expert also provides additional links to solutions for high-speed interface, signal integrity, SCAN, data acquisition, analog signal conditioning, and other analog system needs usually found around FPGAs and CPLDs.
Power Expert key features include:
Automated power solutions finder for Altera FPGAs and CPLDs.
Includes solutions for a large array of Altera devices, including Cyclone III, Cyclone II, Cyclone, Stratix-II and Stratix and Mercury FPGAs as well as Max-II CPLDs. It also includes solutions for 0.9V and 1.1V core FPGAs, which can be used to find regulators for Stratix III and Stratix IV FPGAs.
Creates customized solutions for specific customer application requirements, such as Vin, Iccint, etc., pairing individual power management ICs specifically selected for the given operating conditions to the exact FPGA or CPLD chosen.
Provides these custom solutions for each of the needed voltage rails (Vccint and Vccio) complete with BOMs*, schematics,* and simulation*
Allows customers to choose solutions based on different implementation priorities, highest efficiency, or simplest implementation.
Supports the three most common system input voltages: 3.3V, 5V and 12V.
Solutions utilize National's latest power management ICs, from linear regulators (LDOs) to various switching regulators topologies (buck, synchronous buck, buck controllers), offering a whole optimized portfolio from less than 100 mA to 5A and beyond.
Saves significant time and removes the guesswork by selecting only parts that comply with the FPGA electrical requirements and that are thermally feasible solutions.
Provides power requirements data and guidelines for the various Altera devices covered (including voltages required, typical power consumption range for most applications, sequencing requirements and power-on timing, etc).
Additionally, offers a Web-based library of complete and modular reference designs complete with BOMs, schematics, test data, and even waveforms and PCB layout for the most popular solutions.
It's free.
It runs locally (it's downloadable) so it's always available to use (optional WEBENCH® simulation requires Internet connection).
*depending on WEBENCH® availability for the recommended ICs
National's SolarMagic™ technology recoup up to 71 percent of the power lost, dramatically improving the economics in shaded and other real-world conditions.
